Film-Maker, Adélia was the first black female to direct a feature film in Brazil, Cursed Love (1984). Before that, she worked as a telephone operator, script supervisor, set assembler, camera operator, makeup artist, and producer in more than 70 productions.

With a particular feminine point of view and daughter of Cinema Novo’s movement – one of the most critical audiovisual revolutions in Brazil – Adélia helped write the history of Brazilian cinema. At 78 years old, the filmmaker dedicates her time to telling her life trajectory to younger generations at film festivals and giving professional advice to the new generation of black filmmakers.

Producer, Screenwriter, and Artistic Director with more than 40 years of experience, Denise was confronted with knowledge, dedication, sensibility, and willpower the criticism of the skeptics who didn’t believe in her capabilities as a female professional to rise to the role only occupied by men thus far. Today, she is considered one of the most well-rounded directors in Brazil, becoming an integral role in the entirety of the audiovisual creative process.
 

Her resumé consists of 19 telenovelas, ten limited series, eight tv-specials, tv shows, and reality shows. In 2021, she released her first feature film: Pixinguinha – A Kind Man. Nominated for an International Emmy with the tv-specials Emperor Boy’s Christmas (2008) and Do-Re-Mi Factory (2009). Also, as director and producer, she was responsible for various Globo TV award nominations and victories.

Content Producer, Playwright, Businesswoman, and Costume Designer, Gogoia is the daughter of the first black female director in Brazil, Adélia Sampaio, and journalist Pedro Porfírio. Growing up amidst the Brazilian dictatorship, Gogoia accompanied her mother to movie sets and theatre backstages, where she fell in love with the art of costume design.
